SOLD - Scarce, Excellent HP-Marked DWM Police Luger - Complete Rig, Two Match Mags

6/30/21 - This is an excellent example of a 1920's Commercial DWM Luger that was later converted for issued to the police. It is all matching, has the proper "Crown N" commercial proofs, and has an added police sear safety. This one in particular is marked "HP 453" on the right side of the slide and on the front strap. The meaning of this unit marking is mysterious and widely debated in the collector community. Conventionally, the unit mark is interpreted as "Hohere Polizeischul" (Senior Service Police Academy), as specified in the 1932 Prussian Police marking instructions. It has been noted, however, that the marking instruction for the Hohere Polizeischul is HP., while the Lugers themselves are marked H.P. (note the difference in the periods). This discrepancy, along with the non-standard physical characteristics, has caused a number of advanced collectors to assert that these are not Senior Police School guns following the Prussian regulations, that the mark stands for something else entirely. In any case, this particular rig comes complete with an HP marked Akah-made holster and two matching magazines. The mags have the matching serial number on the bottom and a matching "HP 453" unit marking on the spine. The magazines are marked "S/42" on the bottom, indicating they are armorer's replacement. The gun has retained about 97% of its finish. There is minor wear on the side plate, side rails, around the muzzle, and on the back strap. Very minor freckling on the straps. The slide was numbered at the police arsenal and the stock lug was ground down. Comes with very nice un-numbered grips - small repaired crack on the left panel. Excellent bore - shiny with strong rifling.
