Description
10/20/26 - This is a scarce WWI German occupation Pieper "Bayard" Model 1908 pocket pistol in 7.65mm, with Imperial German military proofs around the right side of the muzzle on both the slide and frame. After Germany occupied Belgium in 1914, the Pieper factory in Herstal came under German control, and production of the 7.65mm Model 1908 continued for German use. These small pistols were carried by German officers and other personnel during the war, and the 1908 is considered the smallest .32 caliber pistol used by the Germans in WWI. Guns with the Imperial proofs are much harder to find than the standard commercial Bayards. It is all matching, with the proper "CAL. 7.65 MODELE DEPOSE" slide marking and the Bayard horse-and-knight logo on the frame. It has retained about 92% of its original bluing. The wear is along the high edges, around the muzzle, at the back edge of the frame, and toward the bottom of the back strap. While there isn't a ton of actual finish loss, there are areas of light spotty oxidation on much of the gun, most noticeable on the left side and on the grip straps. Fitted with period-correct horn grips, with the left grip showing small bore holes. Comes with one proper magazine. The bore is 6/10, with pretty good rifling but noticeable pitting throughout.
