Description
10/17/25 - This is a very nice example of the German M1879 Reichsrevolver, the standard Imperial service revolver from 1879 to 1908 before being replaced by the Luger. Chambered in 10.6mm with a 7" barrel, the M1879 is known as the “cavalry model” among collectors and was renowned for its robust, reliable design, remaining in service through World War I. Designed in the wake of German unification, the Reichsrevolver was intended to standardize sidearms across the newly formed Imperial Army, reflecting both traditional craftsmanship and the conservative approach of German ordnance at the time. Though somewhat outdated by the 1890s, these revolvers continued to see extensive use in colonial conflicts and later as secondary weapons during the Great War. This single-action revolver features the distinctive safety lever and lanyard ring on the grip. It was manufactured by Gebr. Mauser & Cie, Oberndorf, one of the most desirable makers, and is dated 1880 on the frame. This revolver is fully matching, with serial number 2459 appearing on all major and minor parts, including inside the grip scales and escutcheons. An additional 1882 acceptance date is stamped on the frame, indicating when the revolver was officially taken into military service. There is a "B.&.M.I.11.94." unit marking on the butt of the frame. The initials "BF" are burned into the right wood grip panel. It comes as a rig with a minty tan leather holster. The gun's finish rates roughly 70% with general high edge wear, some light surface scratches here and there, and honest wear and patina along the barrel and on the grip straps.
