Description
2/24/26 - This is a rare example of a Colt Government Model 1911 that was produced in 1926 and sent to the Shanghai Municipal Police. This is one of the initial 200 Colt 1911s that were sent to the European officers of Shanghai Police on July 2, 1926. The Europeans had a large presence in Shanghai to try and combat the crime that was taking over the city, and the Chinese police needed help. The Colt 1911s were assigned to the European officers, while the Colt 1908 Pocket Autos were given to the Asian officers as their hands were often too small to operate a 1911. This Colt has been factory engraved with "Shanghai Municipal Police No 8" on the right side of the frame. This firearm has been refinished, believed to be an arsenal rework, which was common for these SMP firearms. This Colt has an unmarked barrel, which we believe was replaced during the rework. Fitted with brown hard rubber grips with no signs of cracks or chips. The bore is bright with crisp rifling, but does show frosting throughout. Comes with one unmarked magazine and a copy of the information provided on the Colt Factory Letter.
