Description
6/2/26 - This is a Smith & Wesson Model 1917 issued to the US military during WW1. It is all matching and "United States Property" marked. According to the included factory letter, it was shipped to the United States Government at the Springfield Armory on December 13, 1917. According to the previous owner, this gun was purchased in "...2004 from Capt. George Lampton, USN retired...He purchased it from Col. Chester Franklin, a USA retired artillery officer who served in Korea and Vietnam having begun his Army career in 1953 after graduating from the Oklahoma Military Academy and ROTC at the University of Oklahoma." The gun has been completely restored and refinished and shows just a hint of muzzle wear. Fitted with wood grips - the right side is hand-numbered in pencil and appears to be mismatched. There is pitting under the grip panels. The rifling in the bore is a bit worn with light pitting throughout.
