Description
2/26/26- For sale is an early war Luftwaffe Pilot/Observer's Badge made by Assmann. These badges were originally introduced in 1935 and were awarded to all German soldiers who completed pilot or aerial observer training. Badge styles and construction methods varied throughout the war and this badge has the markings and patterns of an early war badge. The badge itself is a flying eagle carrying a swastika on a background of an oak leaf wreath. There is mild patina on the badge, especially in the wing feathers, but most of the nice silver coloring is still clearly visible. The eagle is a separate piece that is riveted to the wreath backing, which is the appropriate construction style for these badges. The back of the eagle badge shows the Assmann "A" manufacturer mark. The pin is slightly more silver than the brass hinge so the mounting pin may have been replaced although it does not appear to be a modern replacement. There is mild patina on the back of the badge but no serious damage. Overall in excellent condition.
