Description
07/02/26 - This is an excellent example an non-refurbished 1958 Romanian Cugir SKS M56, chambered in 7.62x39mm. Romania’s licensed SKS-pattern carbine, produced at the Cugir arsenal during the late 1950s and early 1960s, closely follows the Soviet SKS pattern. This example is externally matching, but is mismatched on the gas tube and bolt carrier. The serial number is stamped on the receiver, bolt, top cover, trigger housing, magazine, and stock. The electro-penciled marking on the back of the rear sight is mostly faded and unreadable. Import marked on the right side of the barrel, as is typical for these. Metal condition is very nice overall, with the vast majority bluing remaining, with muzzle wear, scattered handling marks, and some very light freckling on the bright bolt/receiver areas. The wood furniture is also in great shape, though it does shows honest service wear, including scratches, small dents, finish flaking, and some heavier handling marks on the buttstock. The buttplate is loose, likely due to mild warping of the upper screw retention hole, and it rests slightly offset from the stock, revealing a small perimeter of underlying wood, and it also has notable oxidation and finish loss. The rifle includes an excellent folding blade bayonet, cleaning rod, fixed original magazine, and a tan sling. The bore is near-mint, bright with strong rifling and minimal signs of use.
