Description
10/22/25 - This is a M1895 Ersatz Bayonet with a rare Jaeger unit marking. These twisted steel ersatz bayonets were produced as an emergency measure during the First World War, featuring a blade with an inverted single-edged profile identical to the M1895 bayonet. Consequently, no special scabbard was produced, they instead utilized the standard M1895 scabbard. A chevron mark is often observed on the crosspiece, particularly on examples produced for the Mannlicher M1895 rifle, though its specific significance remains unknown. Variations of this emergency design were also manufactured for other firearms, including the Mannlicher M1888 and M1890, the M1867, 1870 & 1873 Werndl rifles, and the German Gewehr 71, Gewehr 71/84, and Gewehr 88.This example is in good condition with patina and signs of polishing. Frog is in similarly good shape, with mild age-related cracking. Scabbard is free of dents, but the paint is worn and chipping throughout.
