Description
10/26/26 - This is a desirable Navy-issued WWII German Leuchtpistole 34 (LP34) flare pistol chambered in 27mm. It features a 6-in barrel with a round front that transitions into an octagonal rear halfway down. Manufactured by Carl Walther in Zella-Mehlis and issued to the Kriegsmarine circa 1941-1942, this flare gun was crafted from an ultra-lightweight anodized aluminum alloy to serve as a primary signal gun across all Kriegsmarine vessels and coastal installations. The right side of the frame flat displays a crisp Waffenamt alongside a sharp Kriegsmarine 'Eagle over M' naval property mark, and the desirable 'M III/3' Wilhelmshaven naval station inspection stamp. The left side of the frame shows the Walther banner logo beneath the full name and factory location. The rear strap shows a naval fleet marking 'O.509', which shows this went to the Ostsee.
The full serial number is stamped on the left side of the frame, and the first four-digits are also stamped diagonally above it on the lower corner of the barrel hinge lug. The bottom of the lug is marked with the next digit, 4, and also includes a 0, which is not part of the serial number. We believe this is likely either a factory error or a standard way of indicating no number follows the first digit, but we cannot be certain of either scenario. The condition is very good, with the flare gun retaining roughly 85-90% of its factory matte black anodized finish. Most of the wear is concentrated on the trigger guard, which is very worn compared to the rest of the pistol, with rough areas of bare metal showing throughout. There is edge wear along the octagonal barrel contours and flats, with scattered areas of finish loss, surface scrapes and scratches, and finish rubbing/thinning on the frame around the hinge pivot. There is also muzzle wear and scattered scratches along the rounded barrel section. Some tiny dings surrounding the rear frame pin on both sides indicate at the least an attempt to disassemble, though the screw is unmarred, as are the other pins. It comes fitted with excellent brown-checkered Bakelite grips that show a bit of handling wear but retain sharp checkering and have no chips or cracks. Mechanics are excellent, and the lanyard loop is slightly rusty, but intact. The bore is excellent, but there is minor corrosion from the muzzle to about 2-in into the barrel, where it looks like mositure seeped in.
Note: This is not a firearm, and requires no licensing for purchase.
