Description
6/15/26 - This is a minty example of a SIG P226, chambered in 9mm, likely manufactured in 1988-1989, and housed in its original matching-numbered factory box. This example itself is all matching, with the serial number stamped on the frame, slide, and barrel. It has the early German features including stamped, thinner slide with tapering top flat, and is in excellent overall condition, retaining about 95-96% of its original finish with general high edge and muzzle wear, as well as some scattered handling marks. Minty bore with sharp rifling, and few signs of use. Fitted with an excellent set of original rubber grips that show minor handling marks and a few spots of dulling. Mechanics are smooth and trigger is excellent in both double and single action. Besides the factory box, this listing also includes the original factory test target (also numbered to the gun), two desirable early production zipper back magazines, as well as the original owner's manual. The right side of the frame displays the model designation alongside the "MADE IN GERMANY" country of origin stamp. Import marked on the tang with a distinct "IO Inc. Palm Bay FL" from Inter Ordnance. The frame, slide chin, and barrel feature German nitro proofs, a Kiel proof house mark, and a "KJ" date code that typically indicates 1998 proofing. This presents a fascinating anomaly for collectors, as the serial number block typically aligns with 1988-89 production. Evidence potentially supports, but does not definitively prove, two plausible scenarios: a flipped factory date code stamp, or a post-reunification slide mated with an earlier frame and officially proofed in 1998 before eventual importation.
