Description
02/11/26 - For sale is a scarce Russian Contract Winchester Model 1895 "Musket" chambered in 7.62x54r and made for the Imperial Russian Army during WW1.
Russia was in dire need of rifles as its manufacturing was not able to keep up with the attrition on the front lines. They would approach America, which was still not fully involved in the war, for small arms. At the time, the only company that had a mass-produced rifle that could chamber the 7.62x54r cartridge was Winchester with their Model 1895 line of hunting rifles. Winchester would produce roughly 294,000 rifles, along with sword bayonets and ammunition for the Russians. These rifles were in the "Musket" configuration with a full length stock and a bayonet lug. Stripper clip guides were added to be fed with Mosin Nagant Stripper clips.
This rifle is worn down to bare metal on the receiver and throw lever. The barrel has a hint of bluing left, but mostly faded to a dark grey and bare metal. The receiver has freckling of surface oxidation but no deep pitting. The wood furniture shows surface scratches but is in great shape. No cracks or breaks. The right side of the buttstock and the right side of the receiver are both stamped with the Russian Acceptance mark. The bore is bright with strong rifling. This rifle was captured by Finland after its independence from Russia in 1917. This rifle and a few other examples were imported by Postrock Imports and come with a Certificate of Authenticity. The bottom of the barrel is marked with a small import mark.
We have taken another example out to the Range.
