Description
10/19/26 - This is a very special example of the iconic Model 1918 "Knuckle Duster" Trench knife made by Henry Disston & Sons, the least-encountered and most-desired maker. The "H. D. & S." marking on the right side of the handle is still crisp, though it has flattened a bit with age. The blade's profile is nearly perfect, with light polishing/sharpening artifacts at and around the tip. These appear to have been performed carefully and minimally to preserve the original sharpness. The blade is great overall condition and has retained most of its finish, but is also mostly covered in areas of surface patina. The handguard is in excellent condition, with the original structure intact. An unusually large amount of the scarce and desirable original black paint is clearly visible in many areas of the handle, particularly on the underside and top of the handguard, as well as the exterior of the finger holes. There is scattered age-smoothing, some areas of scuffing, and minor dings. The spike pommel is in excellent condition, aside from the slightly ground down tip. The fit between all the major components (upper handguard/tang/lower handguard/pommel) is excellent.
**Please Note: this knife does not come with a scabbard.
