Description
5/1/26- For sale is a US M1917 bayonet made by General Cutlery for Vietnam-era trench shotguns. Many American combat shotguns like the famous Winchester 1897 took M1917 bayonets and remained in use for several decades. As American troops began to use shotguns in the jungle fighting of Vietnam, original trench gun bayonets were scarce because it had been decades since they were last produced. In response, new M1917 bayonets were manufactured specifically for use on Vietnam-era trench guns. The blade is nicely parkerized with some minor wear near the tip but no serious damage or major grinding. The top of the crossguard is marked "GEN CUT" and "US M1917". The scabbard has light wear but no damage and is marked on the throat "M-1917" along with the flaming bomb. Overall in excellent condition and a great example of a rare trench gun bayonet!
