Description
9/19/25- For sale is a German 88mm anti-tank shell shipping crate. The 88 was Germany's most famous cannon and arguably the most effective anti-air and anti-tank gun of the war. The 88 and its variants served on the Tiger I and II heavy tanks, as the most feared anti-aircraft guns targeting Allied bombers, and as an anti-tank cannon as the Pak 43. This box is stamped with "8.8CM. SPGR.PATR.43 A.Z./23/28 GEW.KL.111". SPGR PATR 43 indicates that it is a 1943 variant of the Sprenggranate, the German term for high-explosive rounds. This indicates that the round was either fired by an anti-tank cannon or, more likely, loaded into a Tiger or Tiger II. A very cool piece of history with a connection to an iconic weapon! Crate has the paper packing slip glued to the inside of the lid indicating manufacture in June 1944 and still has the shaped wooded supports to cradle the shell. There is some wear and damage on the exterior but nothing too serious, both rope handles are attached and functional. Overall in good condition.
