Description

4/13/26- For sale is a medal commemorating service in the German "Blue Division", a unit of volunteers from Spain who fought against the Soviet Union on the German side. Germany helped Franco win the Spanish Civil War and although Spain was officially neutral in WWII, it was well known that they provided support to Germany, including a division of "volunteer" soldiers. These soldiers fought under German command and a few Spaniards were among the last defenders of Berlin. The medal is made of a dull gray metal that has slightly oxidized over time. The front side has two shields showing the Spanish and German fascist emblems, in addition to a helmet and swastika. The back of the medal commemorates "Spanish Division of Volunteers in Russia". The ribbon is black, white, yellow, and red. Overall in good condition.
