Description
03/18/26 - For sale is a Springfield Model 1884 Trapdoor saddle ring carbine chambered in .45-70 Gov't made in 1885. The rifle is well aged with patina and oxidation on the metal. Most of the case colored finish has worn away. The stock is clean without any cracks or breaks. The stock lacks any inspection stamps on the side behind the saddle ring, nor a Circle P Proof at the wrist. . The bore is bright with strong rifling, but there is some prickling of pitting at the muzzle. The barrel measures out to 22". The rear sight is incorrect and is stamped R for rifle instead of C for sniper. Due to the lack of stamps and the rear sight being incorrect, we are unable to verify if this was originally a correct carbine or a well-done cutdown rifle.
