Description

9/5/17 - This is an extremely rare Colt model 1905 - one of the approximately 440 such pistols with the cut in the back strap for optional combination stock/holster!  The Colt model 1905 was designed by John Browning and was the first firearm chambered for the .45 ACP cartridge.  It was submitted to the U.S. Army for trials to become the standard army sidearm but was rejected, and later improved and modified until it was eventually accepted as the model 1911.  For this reason, these pistols have been casually referred to as the "father of the 1911". There were only 6,000 of these pistols ever made, all between 1905 and 1911.  The pistol listed here is documented in Goddard's "The Government Models", and was manufactured in 1908 and is all correct and original.  It was shipped on May 6, 1908 to a D.N. Walford, as found in Goddard's book on the subject.  It was part of a block of mostly combo guns from serials 2883 to 2915.  The high-polish blue rates at about 75-80%, and the trigger still shows excellent fire bluing.  Original grips and magazine, all in very good to excellent condition.  Excellent bore, too.
