Unmarked German M40 Helmet - Eisenhüttenwerke

Description

10/28/26 - This is an unmarked German M40 helmet manufactured around 1941 by Eisenhüttenwerke. This helmet has retained a strong structural integrity with no signs of dents or deformity. The shell has retained much of its original finish, however there are many areas of wear and scratches which have exposed the bare metal below, leading to some patina presenting on the shell. It does not seem as though any of this patina has penetrated the exterior layer of the metal. The inside brim just above the left ear bears an "ET64" stamp. The "ET" is the maker's mark for Eisenhüttenwerke, and the "64" is the size of the shell. Though it is hard to see, the rear of the brim is stamped with the lot number "4395", which would estimate the production of this helmet to be most likely 1941, possible very late 1940. The chin strap fasteners and the chin strap itself appears to be original, however the liner seems to have been replaced. The original leather straps show some cracking and wear, though are still mostly present and still securely fastened to the helmet. The liner consists of a thin, artificial feeling leather surrounding the perimeter with 4 leather sections attached to it to meet at the crown. Each leather section splits into 2 smaller leather protrusions with a rivet to feed a string through at the wearers crown. Each leather sections appears in tact with no rips or tears, however the string is not present. The rivets fitting the liner to the shell are present and in good shape, though there is some play.
