Description
10/26/26 - This is an original Colt Model 1917 revolver issued to the US Army during WWI. When America entered the war in 1917, Colt and Springfield could not build M1911 pistols fast enough, so the Army adopted large-frame revolvers from Colt and Smith & Wesson chambered for the same .45 ACP cartridge, loaded with half-moon clips. Colt built about 150,000 of them, and this one comes from late in the military production run. All matching, with the "United States Property" marking on the underside of the barrel and the proper Eagle head "S20" military acceptance proof. The original finish rates about 85%, with general high edge wear, thinning along both sides of the barrel and on the grip straps, a few marks and scratches here and there, and a couple of more noticeable dings on the frame. Fitted with un-numbered replacement grips. Very nice bore with great rifling, 8.5/10.
