Description
11/4/26 - This is a U.S. Military Payment Certificate (MPC), Series 472, in the 10 cent denomination. Military Payment Certificates were introduced after WWII to pay American servicemen overseas, replacing U.S. dollars in military establishments to curb black market currency trading. Series 472 was in use from 1948 to 1951, including the early months of the Korean War. The front features the Great Seal eagle in blue at center with "10 CENTS" in the upper corners, and the back is printed in brown and lavender with the eagle and the "For use only in United States military establishments" warning. Serial number C05579028C. The certificate shows circulation wear, with folds, soiling, and a folded and torn upper left corner. A nice Series 472 MPC for the military currency collector.
