Description
4/2/26 - This is a Colt New Navy Model 1895 Double Action .38 Revolver from 1898. The butt is marked U.S.N. over the Navy Anchor. Beneath this is the caliber designation ".38 D.A." and the Navy property number. It is matching with "trident" proofs throughout and British export proofs on the underside of the barrel and on the cylinder. According to the included Colt Factory letter, it was shipped to a Commandant at the US Navy Yard in New York on April 20, 1898, in a shipment of 200 guns. This one has retained roughly 75-80% of its original finish. There is spotty wear, discoloration, and patina throughout. There are also handling marks and scratches throughout - honest wear from use. Fitted with hard rubber grips - handling marks and scratches on both sides. Most of the bore is shiny with great rifling, but there are a couple of small spots of oxidation and pitting. This is an antique, so no FFL is required.
