Description
10/28/26 - This is a very nice example of a pair of WWII-era German flak binoculars manufactured by Josef Schneider & Co. The finish on this pair of binoculars is in excellent shape and has retained a majority of its original color. Most loss on these binoculars is consisting as high-edge wear, with some sparse light handling and wear marks which appear to be from use. The right side of the binoculars bears the information regarding this unit. The top stamp reads "D. F. 10x80" which stands for "Doppelfernrohr", or double telescope, and 10x80 indicating the magnification power of the unit. Below that it reads "(blue circle) dkl (red X)" with the colored markings indicating the type of internal grease and lubricant used in the binoculars (blue circle indicates cold-resistance), and the dkl is the maker's mark, in this case Josef Schneider & Co. At the bottom of the legend is the serial number of the unit, "19032". The lenses within this unit are in excellent shape with no signs of any scratches or cracks. On the top right side of the unit, there is a knob to adjust the width of the optics, which functions correctly and with smooth travel across the unit. Towards the front of the unit, on the top left, there is a knob that is marked "klar" (clear), "hell" (light), "mittel" (medium), "dunkel" (dark), which each correspond to a different lens filter to help maintain vision during almost any brightness. Each filter moves freely and operates as intended. Each ocular fitting has a focus adjustment knob, both of which work as intended and function well. The back end of this unit has a cover over each rear lens, however we cannot confirm that these are original. Overall this is one of the nicest sets of 10x80 flak binoculars we have seen and functions very well.
