Description
10/12/26 - This is a very nice example of a WWII-era Japanese Type 97 scope case. The finish on this case is in great condition with the canvas in great structural condition and coated with an olive drab rubberized finish. The body of this case shows some high-edge wear, and some loss in the coating on the narrow face of the case, though there is no damage present to the canvas itself. The lid on this case has "529" written in silver marker facing the rear of the case. The back of the case has retained nearly all of its rubberized coating with only notable loss existing as high-edge wear and some thinning on the rear attachment strap. The leather front securing strap is structurally sound with no signs of any rips or tears, though the finish has thinned over time due to use. Underneath the lid near the lip of the case, there are a series of Japanese ink stamps on the left side. The interior of the case has retained its original wooden brackets to secure the scope within the case, along with the proper tool sleeve in the corner. All of the proper bracket fittings are present and secure on the case. The stitching over the entire case is in great condition with no signs of any pulling or missing threads. The shoulder strap is tightly secured with no signs of any tearing or damage to the strap or the buckles. Overall this is a very nice Type 97 scope case.
