Very Nice Original WWII US Porcelain Coated Canteen, Cup and Carrier

Description

11/2/26 - This is a very nice example of a WWII U.S. canteen and carrier manufactured in 1942. The finish on the canteen itself is in excellent condition retaining a majority of its gloss black porcelain finish. There is a small area of chipping on the front of the canteen about an inch below the mouth, and the left and right side of the canteen both have a small (~1/2" diameter) spot of finish chipping. The plastic cap with cork seal is in great shape with no cracking or dry rot. The metal chain is still securely fastened to the lid and the canteen. The bottom of the canteen is ink stamped "U.S. // REP // 1942" indicating that it was manufactured by the Republic Stamping and Enameling Co. in Canton, Ohio in 1942. The canteen cup with this set is in excellent shape with a strong handle and tight latch. The cup was manufactured by Foley Manufacturing Co. based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The handle is stamped "U.S. // FOLEY MGF. CO. // 1945" putting its production at the end of the war. The canteen carrier is in very nice shape with no signs of any ripping or tearing. There are sparse speckles of discoloration which primarily seem to be rust spots. All of the stitching on this carrier is present with no signs of any missing or torn threads. The front of the carrier is stamped "U.S.", and the back just below the belt loop is stamped "SHANE MFG. CO. // 1942" indicating the production of the carrier from Shane Manufacturing Co. out of Evansville, Indiana. The belt bracket is slightly bent, but shows no damage otherwise. Overall this is a very nice WWII U.S. canteen set.
