Description
11/2/26 - This is a very nice example of a WWI German boot knife that was manufactured by Gottlieb Hammesfahr in Solingen, Germany. This boot knife comes with a bright, beautiful blade with no signs of patina present. There is some dried grease on parts of the blade which are remnants from when the blade was protected before being put into storage. There is one small spot of damage on the edge about halfway up the blade where it looks slightly bent. The ricasso on one side of the blade bears the "GOTTLIEB // HAMMESFAHR // SOLINGEN.FOCHE" maker's mark and specific district within Solingen that it was manufactured in. The opposite side of the ricasso holds the German imperial proof stamp, which is a Crown/C. The metal handguard is in great shape, though it does appear that there may be some light signs of patina on the surface of one side. The wooden grip panels are both in excellent condition with a beautiful dark brown color. There is no play on either panel and there are no signs of any chipping or cracks within the wood. The scabbard is in excellent functional shape with all parts present. The scabbard itself has some sparse finish loss present on the exterior black finish, however this appears to be just from general wear. There are no dents or disfigurements within the metal scabbard. The leather belt look is securely fastened with no play in the mount and the handle fastener strap is fully in tact with no ripping or tearing. The button is still present, secure, and has retained a majority of its brown paint outside of some color loss on the perimeter.
