Description
12/1/25- For sale is a very rare and extremely desirable 1936 pattern chained SS dagger. SS members were issued with ceremonial daggers just like the SA and all branches of the Wehrmacht, and the standard SS dagger is nearly identical to the standard SA dagger, with the exception of a black scabbard and grip, SS runes, and a blade etching. In 1936, a new dagger pattern was issued for SS members who had joined before the Nazi seizure of power in January 1933. These daggers included a central scabbard fitting and a chain with the SS Death's Head and the SS lightning runes. These daggers are iconic and striking pieces from the most infamous organization of World War Two.
The blade on this dagger has no clearly visible wear, patina, or damage. There are two or three tiny chips that are slightly noticeable with the fingertip but only visible under very close inspection. The blade etching is clear and crisp. There is no maker mark on the blade which is correct for this pattern of dagger. The crossguards are not magnetic, which is correct for early model zinc or nickel fittings. The interior of the crossguards is marked "P.A." which is a known feature on other 1936 SS daggers. The eagle and SS runes are well fit into the handle. The handle has some gentle wear but no noticeable damage. The scabbard has some wear and slight loss of paint but retains most of the original finish and coloring. The scabbard has been checked underneath one of the fittings to verify that it is completely black painted, not a repainted SA scabbard. The chain is a Type II chain and has the correct number and pattern of links. There is light wear and patina on the chain and scabbard fittings but no damage. There are small SS runes on the bottom link of the shorter chain side. Dagger is overall in excellent condition and is a very rare addition to any WW2 collection!
