Description
9/16/26 - This is a very rare Walther P.38 from 1940, known as the "40 added" variation. In 1940, Walther was assigned the new production code "ac". The first 2,650 pistols produced were made without the manufacture year marked on the slide, and at some point it was decided to add those last two digits. The earliest dated variation was made using slides that were already 'ac' marked, so the '40 date was added later. There were only about 6,000 of this variation produced in 1940. The pistol is all matching numbers, including the grips. Walther inspection stamps on all small parts. It comes as a rig with two numbered but mismatched magazines and a period-correct hard shell holster (the top flap is embellished with a death head pin, and there are two small leather repairs on the back). The gun has lost the majority of its original high polish bluing with honest finish loss throughout and some light pin-pricking on both sides of the slide. The bore has decent rifling, but there is noticeable freckling and frosting throughout. De-cocker is functional. The hold open does not work automatically with either magazine.
