Description
12/29/23 - This is a very rare Colt Model 1908 Pocket Hammerless with Colt archives letter confirming it was issued and shipped to the Naval Supply Depot in Norfolk, VA. A total of 3,113 .380 Hammerless Pocket Automatic Pistols were purchased by the Ordnance Department between March 1944 and June 1945. The U.S. Navy received 1,055 of these pistols. The U.S. Navy .380 Pocket Automatic pistols were primarily issued to the Office of Naval Intelligence. This particular example has matching numbered slide and frame, and original bluing with a nice plum tone to the slide. The pistol doesn't show much actual bluing loss, with minor high edge wear on the slide and light thinning on the front strap. Excellent bore and grips. The listing includes a sales receipt stating the pistol was bought from the widow of Robert H Speck Jr, whose father was Rear Admiral Robert H. Speck Sr. Some information about his service is included, as well as his Naval jacket from his time as a Naval Captain with his nametag intact.
