Very Rare, Matching Erfurt Kar98a, 1913 mfg - East Asia Marine Detachment

05/14/26 - For sale is an Erfurt Kar98a issued to the German Naval East Asia Marine Detachment or the Ostasiatische Marine-Detachement stationed in China in 1909 and would serve into WW1.

Germany had territories in China that would come under threat during the Boxer Rebellion. Germany sent an Expeditionary force consisting of roughly 15,000 soldiers from the army to support their troops in China. After the rebellion was defeated, roughly 3600 would stay behind as the rest would go back to Germany. in 1909, the Army detachment had withdrawn and was replaced by the Naval East Asian Marine Detachment. During WW1, the East Asia Marine Detachment would defend the city of Tsingtao against the Japanese. The German soldiers would eventually surrender as supplies started to dry up. 

The rifle is in excellent condition with a nice military bluing throughout the metal. Areas of visible wear down to bare metal and patches of patina turning a brownish color. The stock is in great shape without any cracks or breaks. Numerous handling marks and the stamps are still visible. The buttplate is unit marked "OMD 48" for the East Asia Marine Detachment. The bore is bright with strong rifling. Included is a muzzle cover with the matching "OMD 48".
