Description
11/5/26 - For sale is a WWI German Type 2 32-round snail drum magazine (TM08 Trommelmagazin) for the Artillery Luger. The snail drum was adopted in 1917 to give the long-barreled Artillery Luger and its shoulder stock the firepower for trench raids and close combat, and the Type 2 is the improved version that followed the first production drums. This drum has the folding winding lever with checkered knob, the keyhole for the loading tool, the round count markings around the face (17, 22, 27, 32), and the stamped tube that fits the Luger magazine well. The back of the drum is serial numbered "442347" with an inspection mark, and the tube carries a small acceptance stamp. The finish has toned to a gray-brown patina with light handling wear and some fine surface spotting. The mechanism is functional and the spring is strong. A very nice snail drum for an Artillery Luger collection.
