Description
11/4/26 - This is a WWII Imperial Japanese Army winter flying helmet with goggles. Japanese aircrew flew in unheated, often open or drafty cockpits at altitude, and fur-lined winter helmets like this one were issued to protect pilots against the severe cold. The helmet is made of tan leather with the Imperial Japanese Army five-pointed star stitched on the front, and is fully lined with fur. It features leather ear cups with openings for communication equipment, an adjustable leather chin strap with a D-ring, and a cloth goggle strap retainer at the rear. The inside of the ear cups bears inked Japanese stamps. It comes with a pair of period flying goggles with brown leather-padded frames and clear lenses on an elastic strap. The goggles are in great shape with no cracking. The leather shows age, with some fading and light staining, but remains soft and malleable. The fur lining remains full and in nice shape. A nice WWII Japanese Army winter flying helmet, complete with its goggles.
