Description
11/3/26 - For sale is a WWII German Luftwaffe officer's visor cap (Schirmmütze). The Luftwaffe was officially unveiled in 1935, and its officers wore this distinctive blue-gray peaked cap with the service and walking-out uniforms. Officer rank is shown by the silver aluminum piping around the crown and along both edges of the band, and by the twisted silver aluminum chin cords secured with two side buttons. The front carries the stamped aluminum Luftwaffe flying eagle on the crown and the winged oak-leaf wreath with national cockade on the black band. The cap has a black visor with a green underside, a tan liner, and a clear sweat shield in the crown. The cap is in excellent condition overall, with no moth holes in the wool. The silk liner on the inside shows minor sweat staining, and the clear plastic sweat shield is cracked with a piece missing. A sharp, attractive example of a classic Luftwaffe officer's cap.
