Description
1/7/25 - This is a great example of a WW2 M38 Tanker helmet made by Wilson Athletic Goods. The M38 Tanker helmet was adopted by the U.S. military in May of 1941. Based on designs of popular football helmets at the time, the helmet was designed to protect the crews of tanks from bumping their heads against the tank hull. Additionally, the helmet provided a mounting point for in-tank communications systems. The outer shell of the helmet was constructed of a durable fiber resin with the inside consisting of padded leather. This example is in great condition, and the leather remains intact. The leather interior is still soft and pliable. The leather on the ear cups is starting to stiffen with age, as a result the flex point on this leather has some wrinkling. The inside still retains its manufacturers ink stamp. This stamp is excellent and is still easily recognizable and legible.
