1/14/25 - This is an great example of a SA Sports Badge made by Berg & Nolte. These badges were issued between 1933 and 1945. These badges were instituted in 1933 by the then leader of the SA, Ernst Rohm. The SA were the original protectors of Adolf Hitler and the Nazi party, and were often referred to as "Hitler's Brown Shirts" or "Hitler's Bully Boys". To be awarded this badge the recipient had to have completed and successfully passed the educational and physical program created by the SA. Originally known as the SA Sports Badge, in 1939 Adolf Hitler renamed the badge to the SA Defense Badge. This badge was one of the very few political awards that military members could wear openly on their military uniforms. This badge is in excellent overall condition and still has a fully functional pin and catch.
