8/20/24 - This is a US Army National Guard Officers Cap made by Kingform Cap DeLuxe, New York. It belonged to BG (Ret) Stanley A. Scraba, as indicated by the card on the inside. We were able to find Stanley's Obituary (see below). The cap is in mint condition with no signs of wear or use. Size 6 7/8". Stanley's Obit - "Stanley A . Scraba, Jr., Age 80, of Stuart, FL and Alexander's Lake, Dayville died Monday February11, 2013 in Boca Raton Regional Hospital. He was the loving husband of Joan (Trudeau) Scraba. Born in Putnam on July 6,1932, he was the son of the late Stanley and Annie (Perkins) Scraba. Stan began a 36 year military career with the Army as a private in 1949 before retiring in 1986 as a Brigadier General from the Connecticut Army National Guard. He served with the 43D Division in Germany during the Korean War. Attaining the rank of Master Sergeant, Scraba received a direct commission in the CT State Army Guard in 1953. He commanded both the Danielson and Putnam companies and served as a Confinement Officer for the 169th Military Police Battalion as well as an Operations Officer for the 192D Engineer Battalion. Stan was a past commander of both the 192D and 242D Engineer Battalions. He had also been the Commandant of the Connecticut Military Academy. He graduated from Bryant College and the resident U.S. Army Command and General Staff College in Fort Leavenworth, KA. He also was a member of Governor Ella Grasso's and Governor O'Neill's Military Staff. He began his 31 year teaching career at Putnam High as both a Business Teacher and Assistant Football Coach from 1955 to 1968. He was also the first Business Manager of the Putnam School systems from 1970 to 1974 and he concluded his teaching as a Career Education Specialist at Brooklyn Elementary 1975 to 1986. Locally in Putnam, Stan was a Police Commissioner for 14 years and the First Special Service District Chairman. He was a lifetime member of Putnam's Lodge of Elks 574 and VFW post 1523. Stan is survived by his five children. Mrs. Susan Johnston (Mark) of Alexander's Lake; Ms Paula Scraba, Ph.D of St Bonaventure, NY; Brigadier General Mark D. Scraba, U.S. Army (Mary-Elizabeth) of Stuttgart, Germany, Captain Christopher P. Scraba, U.S. Coast Guard, (Melissa) of Weston FL, Mr. Sean M. Scraba (Tracey) of Tolland; and ten grandchildren, Danielle (Mathew), John Christopher, Joshua, Emily, Sean, Elizabeth,Samantha, Spencer,Zachary and Keagan. He was predeceased by his son Stanley Thomas Scraba in April 1985. Stan and Joan enjoyed their 60th Wedding anniversary at their summer home on Alexander's Lake in Dayville with many of their friends and family back in July 2012. Stan will be remembered by many students, soldiers and members of the Putnam Community as a wonderful role model and mentor as well as his many dear friends in Stuart, FL."
