Description
10/29/24 - This is a rare US Paratrooper helmet made by Schlueter Manufacturing between 1943 and 1944. The shell of this helmet is an early front seam with the stainless steel rim. This helmet uses the swivel bales which replaced the early D style bales. The D style bales were found to be easy to break. This helmet has the correct fabric sewn on fabric closure strap to the bales that not only has the standard closure hardware, but also the additional strap meant to keep the helmet liner inside the helmet for paratroopers. The helmet liner is made by firestone, and has the proper webbing for a paratrooper liner, with the cupped chin strap. Overall this helmet is in the correct configuration for a 1943-1944 paratrooper. This helmet has been painted to match the historical "Easy Company" of the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment of the 101st Airborne Division. This company was made famous in 1992 by Stephen Ambrose's book "Band of Brothers" and the subsequent HBO Mini Series of the same name. This helmet sports the insignia of a Captain. During WW2 there were three soldiers who held the rank of Captain and were the company commanders, Herbert Sobel, Richard "Dick" Winters, and Ronald Speirs. Lewis Nixon also held the rank of Captain, but he was at the battalion then regimental level as the intelligence officer. This helmet would make a great addition to any collection, and would be an awesome display piece.Specifications
