Description
10/19/22 - This is a nice example of a Sharps & Hankins 1859 Navy Carbine. The metal has retained much of its original blued finish but has heavy oxidation throughout. There is some thinning/finish loss around the screws/pins in the receiver as well as some peen marks on the right side near the foremost screw/pin. The right hand side reads "Sharps & Hankins Philada.". The left hand side reads "Sharp's Patent 1859". The upper tang shows serial number "9194". The wooden stock is in nice condition overall. There are signs of use and wear throughout. There is a carved embellishment on the right-hand side of the buttstock. These carbines originally had leather barrel covers to help protect them against water, the leather covering is not included with this example. The bore's rifling is still distinct but the bore is mostly dark. There is pinpricking and frosting throughout the bore, most concentrated toward the muzzle. The barrel measures 24" and the total length of the carbine is 38 1/2". Overall, a nice example of a naval carbine from the Civil War.Specifications
