Description
1/3/23 - This is a nice example of a Sharps Model 1859 Carbine. There were approximately 45,000 of this model made during the 1860-1863 period. This particular example appears to be in its original percussion configuration. Many of these were converted to .50-70 Govt. This one appears to be un-modified. The serial number on the tang is 36710. There is a non-matching number on the lever. There appears to be a tiny screw missing from the right side of the lock. The majority of the finish on the metal parts has worn away. There is spotty brown patina throughout and areas of pitting here and there - most noticeable along the barrel. The wood shows signs of heavy use - dings, scratches, and bruises throughout. A hairline crack on the right side of the handguard and a chip in the wood near the upper tang. Original saddle ring is missing. The majority of the bore is shiny with strong rifling, but there are some areas of spotty oxidation here and there. Fully functional.Specifications
