Description

12/5/22 - Put into production at Harpers Ferry in 1846, the Model 1841 is also known as the Mississippi Rifle due to its success in the Mexican War with the Mississippi regiment under the command of Colonel Jefferson Davis. Approximately 70,000 Model 1841s were produced by Harpers Ferry and contractors between 1846 and 1855. This is one the 8,879 rifles altered to rifled 58 caliber bores. The National Armories did this alteration in 1855-1860. They were re-bored to 58 caliber, the ramrod was replaced by all steel type with trumpet head profile with out brass tip. The lock has a US eagle insignia and is dated 1851. The upper tang is dated 1847. The barrel has an Eagle Head military proof and is stamped "AW P". Overall, this one is in very nice condition. There is light spotty brown patina along the barrel, and a few spots along the barrel with more noticeable patina. The wood stock is very nice with only minor dings and scratches here and there. Inside the compartment in the butt stock is an original multitool (marked US) and a spare nipple. Very nice bore with good rifling.
