Description
10/19/22 - This is a nice example of a US Model 1842 Musket made by Harper's Ferry in 1850. The metal is in good overall condition with no major defect and only minor signs of textured oxidation or pinpricking here and there. Most of the rifle's metal has heavy patina throughout so it does not feature much of its original finish. On the lock plate is a "US" under eagle marking as well as "HARPER'S FERRY 1850". The barrel is dated 1849, suggesting that the musket was assembled earlier on during 1850 and utilized a leftover barrel from the previous year. The wooden stock is in good condition overall, but does have a carved "X" on the right-hand side of the buttstock. The stock otherwise has minor use wear throughout. The musket includes an original ram rod and "US" marked socket bayonet. The bayonet has retained most of its original finish and appears to be in unsharpened condition, but has oxidation throughout. The bore is dark and shows heavy frosting and oxidation throughout. The barrel is 42" long and the rifle is 58" in total length. The bayonet is 21" long including the barrel collar. Overall, an interesting rifle in nice condition.Specifications
