Description

12/16/24 - This is a very good example of a rare early K98 bayonet from 1935 made by Gebr. Heller. This bayonet maintains some of it's original finish on the scabbard and metal handle parts, but this finish is mostly gone. Where this bayonet is remarkable is the blade. The blade on this bayonet maintains most of it's original finish with only minor finish loss from scabbard wear from standard use. The blade on this bayonet still maintains it's original edge and has no signs of being sharpened. Both the bayonet and the scabbard are serial numbered "9624". The serial on the blade does have a faint "0" where the 2 is, but this appears to have been a factory error that was corrected prior to this blades finish being applied. The scabbard and the blade both have the "S.178 G" marking which indicates the maker as Gebr. Heller, and the date as 1935. This "G" code indicates that this bayonet was made as part of the secret re-armament of the German Military under the early years of Nazi Germany, in direct violation of the Treaty of Versailles.
