Description
12/6/21 - This is a very rare and interesting Hi-Standard Model "B" that is marked with crossed cannons cartouche and 'PROPERTY OF U.S.' on the right side of the frame. At the beginning of WWII, there was a demand for .22 caliber pistols to train new recruits in marksmanship. The .22 was cheaper to shoot and had less recoil and report than the standard issued .45 caliber M1911/A1. In 1942, the War Department purchased Model B's in mass quantity with deliveries beginning in May and June. Every model High Standard in inventory went to the military, regardless of model or barrel length. This rare gun, with a long commercial barrel and the US Ordnance acceptance markings, is one of these early guns shipped "off the rack" from High Standard to the War Department in 1942. This is the first such example we've encountered, and is seemingly a pretty rare find. The gun itself is all original but clearly worn finish on most of the metal, and a few areas of pitting. Excellent bore. Original magazine. The grips are original but show some handling wear/age and a bit of dirt in the grooves.Specifications
