SOLD - Rare German K98 Rifle - SWP 45 (79126a - 18825)

Description

4/1/22 - This is arguably one of the rarest late war K98 variations - an SWP 45 coded rifle, made in the closing days of WWII at the Czech Waffenfabric Brunn arsenal which produced K98s for the Wermacht towards the end of the war. There were two late war variants made - one with a sheet metal rear sight and one with an adjustable rear sight. This is one has a crude end-of-war sheet metal rear sight. Most of these had some sort of post WWII usage with Czechoslovakian forces or Israeli forces. This one was assembled from a mixture of a blued and phosphate parts - correct for these end-of-war guns. The bolt is matching to the gun. The barrel bands are numbered and mismatched. The butt plate, floor plate, and trigger assembly are un-numbered. The stock and handguard are numbered but mismatched. There is a witness mark on the wood of the handguard and stock where it looks like there was once a barrel band. There is muzzle wear and some light scratches / handling marks along the barrel. Scratchy wear on the barrel bands. Tiny dots of discoloration on the phosphate parts. Very nice stock with just a few light scratches. There looks like there is the beginnings of a hairline crack just behind the action - has not propagated into a notable crack. The bore has bad pitting throughout. Comes with a numbered but mismatched cleaning rod and a period-correct leather sling. The front sight is loose.
