Description

8/5/22 - This is a very nice example of a scarce, early Danzig Karabiner 98 A issued to the Imperial German Army in 1909. It is mostly matching with the proper Imperial proofs throughout. The front barrel band has been renumbered to match the receiver. The receiver is additionally dated with a "1920" stamp indicating the rifle remained in government service after WW1. This was a requirement of Germany's compliance with the Treaty of Versailles. Rifles of this kind were typically reworked and sometimes refinished, as is the case with this rifle. The finish of the metal is consistent and shows minor oxidation and handling wear throughout. The wooden stock is numbered and matching to the receiver and is in overall nice condition showing handling wear throughout. There are imperial proofs on the right side of the stock. The bore shows good rifling but has some spots of minor frosting.
