Description
10/21/26 - This is a very nice example of a Colt Model 1911A1 issued to the US military in 1943. Colt, the original designer and maker of the 1911, was one of five companies that built M1911A1s during WWII, along with Remington Rand, Ithaca, Union Switch & Signal and Singer, and the wartime Colts remain among the most sought after by collectors. It is all correct, with all the proper markings, including the "GHD" inspector initials of Col. Guy H. Drewry and the crossed cannons military cartouche, and it is fitted with a proper "Colt .45 Auto" barrel with a small "F" under the lug. The original parkerized finish rates about 90%, with thinning and light brown patina on the front strap, general high edge wear, muzzle wear, and some light spotty wear along the top and right side of the slide. Fitted with period-correct reddish plastic grips, and comes with a more modern replacement magazine. Excellent bore with strong rifling, 9/10.
