Description
11/3/26 - This is an original WWII U.S. Model 1905 bayonet manufactured by PAL Blade & Tool Company in 1943, complete with its full-length M3 scabbard. PAL was one of six civilian contractors producing these long pattern, 16-inch bayonets during WWII, before production transitioned to the shorter 10-inch M1 Garand bayonet in the latter half of 1943. This example features its original full length spear-point blade with long, round-bottomed fullers, black grooved synthetic grip panels, and a steel crossguard and pommel. The ricasso is stamped PAL above the U.S. Ordnance flaming-bomb insignia and the 1943 date. The blade is in great shape, retaining much of its original gray Parkerized finish. Factory cross-graining is still visible against scattered fine longitudinal scratches and areas of mild discoloration. The finish is thinning a bit around the ricasso, with more pronounced thinning, rub wear, and smoothing towards the tip. The crossguard and pommel exhibit mottled brown patina, with finish thinning along the exposed edges, particularly toward the outer ends of the guard and around the blade junction. The original black grip panels are in very good condition, retaining well-defined grooves with light surface rubbing and no visible cracks or chips. Both grip screws show brown patina. The accompanying full-length olive-drab M3 scabbard retains most of its original finish, with scattered scratches, light abrasions along the raised ribs, and several darker scuffs and smudges across the body. The rounded scabbard tip remains intact. Its U.S. Ordnance flaming-bomb-marked metal throat and wire suspension hook show widespread brown oxidation and finish deterioration, particularly across the stamped throat face, around the folded edges and lower seams, and along the suspension hardware.
