Description
6/12/23 - This is an original 1918 Gewehr 98 rifle made by C.G. Haenel. The rifle was later re-worked for WW2 use in 1935, as indicated by the proof stamps found on the rear sight and barrel. These are rare S/42 G Mauser proof stamps (used only in 1935). The rifle retains all original matching numbered parts, including the 1935 production barrel. The stock was likely fitted to the metal during 1935 as well, due to the X'd out serial number and re-stamped matching number on the underside of the stock. The stock is also Imperial proof stamped. The lower hand guard has been duffel cut, but otherwise the stock is in great condition with no major cracks or chips. The metal rates at about 85-90% overall condition with most of the finish loss being found near the top of the receiver and bolt assembly. All numbered parts are matching except for the bolt assembly. The bore rates about 8/10 overall with strong rifling and some natural patina within the grooves.Specifications
