Rare Krieghoff Inscribed Side-Panel Variation

11/4/24 - This is a hard to find Krieghoff variation that is on many collector "wish-lists". It is a commercial, pre-war Krieghoff that was sold privately, or presented as a gift to a friend of a Nazi official. The frame has a P prefix which indicates commercial sale and the parts have a combination of "Star" proofed and L/2 proofs which are completely correct for this variation. The inscription on the left side is "Heinrich Krieghoff, Waffenfabrik, Suhl". It has prewar crown N proofs and all numbered parts are matching. Most small parts are not numbered on this variation. The grips are proper, Krieghoff red plastic. The finish on the main parts such as the frame, barrel and receiver are restored post factory, but also show wear/ age. Many of the small part and strawed parts appear to be original finish. The nickel magazine is unnumbered and not proofed which can be correct for a commercial luger. An all original inscribed Krieghoff can sell in the $12k to $15k range. This one is significantly lower due to the restoration of the bluing.
