Description

1/7/25 - From the collection of Jan Still, well-known author of collector resource books such as "Axis Pistols", "Third Reich Lugers", and more. Comes with a signed Certificate of Authenticity from the Sill family. This is a nice example of a very rare, transitional 1937 Luger with mixed proofs on the receiver. Part of the way through 1937, we start seeing transitional guns with both "Stick Wing Eagle 63" and "Droop Wing Eagle 63". However, according to Don Hallock's "The Mauser Parabellum" book (Pg 141), "During late 1937, a few receivers will be found with the SE-83 SE-63 acceptance marks. These acceptance marks were very rare in 1937 but very common in 1938". This one is all matching and has the aforementioned "Stick Eagle 63" and "Stick Eagle 83" acceptance proofs. The gun has retained roughly 85% of its original finish. The majority of the finish loss is on the grip straps, but there is also general high edge and muzzle wear. Fitted with matching-numbered wood grips and comes with a mismatched "Eagle 63" magazine. The bore hasgood rifling, but there is very light frosting throughout.
