SOLD - German Police-Marked Walther Model 4 Rig - Featured in Book

3/20/25 - This is a Walther Model 4 issued to a Nazi Police force in the 1930's. All matching with "S. P. Th." unit marking on the front strap. This exact gun is featured by serial number and photographed in "History Writ in Steel: German Police Markings 1900-1936" book by L. Donald Maus. From the book "This pistol is one of 250,000 manufactured for the Prussian Army under a 1915 contract. It is housed in a 1941-dated holster serial numbered to the gun. According to the gun's owner, Joe Wotka, a Schutzpolizei was raised in Thuringen following the election of an NSDAP state government in 1930 and teh appointment of a Nazi, Dr. Wilhelm Frick as Interior Minister in charge of all police. This suggests that this marking represents Schutzpolizei Thuringen and that it was applied some time between 1930 and 1937 when marking of police weapons was terminated. It is not known where the pistol was between the end of WWI and 1930". It comes with its original matching-numbered police holster, one original matching-numbered magazine, and one un-numbered magazine. The gun shows finish loss and dulling on the grip straps, general high edge wear, muzzle wear, and a series of small dings on the left side of the slide. Fitted with period-correct horn grips - there are bore holes on both sides, repaired cracks on the right, and the magazine is really tight in the gun when the grip panels are tight. Very nice bore.
